Chinese Evergreen

Aglaonema

Elegant foliage plant with stunning leaf patterns in silver, pink, or red. Exceptionally tolerant of low light and easy to maintain.

About Chinese Evergreen

Chinese evergreens are prized for their stunning foliage patterns and remarkable tolerance for low-light conditions. Available in varieties with silver, pink, red, or multicolored leaves, they bring color to spaces where other colorful plants would struggle.

Light

Thrives in low to medium indirect light. Darker green varieties tolerate the lowest light levels, while colorful varieties (pink, red) need brighter light to maintain their color. Avoid direct sun.

Tip

The darker the leaf color, the lower the light it can tolerate. Silver-green varieties handle the dimmest corners.

Water

Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Chinese evergreens prefer consistent moisture but tolerate occasional drought. Overwatering causes yellowing and root rot. Reduce watering in winter.

Humidity

Appreciates moderate humidity but adapts to average household conditions. May develop brown leaf tips in very dry environments.

Temperature

Prefers warmth—65-80°F (18-27°C). Very sensitive to cold; keep away from drafts and temperatures below 60°F (15°C).

Common Problems

Yellow leaves

Usually overwatering or cold exposure. Check soil moisture and plant location.

Brown leaf tips

Low humidity or inconsistent watering. Mist occasionally and maintain regular watering.

Faded coloration

Colorful varieties losing vibrancy need more light.

Styling Notes

Chinese evergreens work beautifully as tabletop plants or grouped with other tropical foliage. Their colorful varieties add warmth to modern interiors.

Bottom Watering Compatibility

excellent

Chinese evergreens respond very well to bottom watering. Their root systems efficiently wick moisture from reservoirs.
